Das 3-CD/DVD Box-Set The Anthology 1977-1979 der Tom Robinson Band ist eine wahre Fundgrube für Fans der Band und bietet die absolute Vollbedienung für Fans der gerade einmal knapp 3 Jahre existierenden Band. Natürlich ist Tom Robinson auch schon vorher und danach aktiv gewesen bzw. noch aktiv, doch auch 35 Jahre noch Veröffentlichung von Power In The Darkness, dem Debütalbum der Band, welches Platz 4 der UK Charts erreichte ist es an der Zeit, diese großartige Band zu würdigen.
Die Tom Robinson Band spielte eine punkig rockige Variante, die bestens in die damalige Musiklandschaft passte. Und vor allem live war die Band ein dickes Pfund, wie auch die vielen Live-Aufnahmen und die DVD bestätigen. Natürlich sind auch beide offiziellen Studioalben – das grandiose Power In The Darkness und Two (welches den Erfolg des Debüts völlig zu Unrecht nicht mehr erreichen konnte) - und die Singles mit B-Seiten enthalten. Und doch sind die tollen Live-Ausgrabungen, wie mehrere Peel-Sessions und andere BBC Shows, die größtenteils bisher nicht offiziell erhältlich waren. So sind die 3 CDs randvoll gefüllt mit großartiger Musik wie dem Hit “2-4-6-8 Motorway“ und dem Klassiker “(Sing If You’re) Glad To Be Gay“ oder das famose “Martin“. Es macht einfach Spaß, dieser Musik zu lauschen.
Auf der DVD gibt es neben ein paar alten Promo-Clips auch die interessante Dokumentation Too Good To Be True? von Granada TV. Hier sind neben einzelnen Live-Aufnahmen auch Interviews enthalten, die einen Eindruck von der Philosophie der Band geben und auch heute noch Relevanz besitzen.
The Anthology 1977-1979 ist eine gelungene Aufbereitung der Bandgeschichte der Tom Robinson Band. Das 3-CD/DVD Box-Set lohnt sich für Einsteiger wie auch für Fans. Sehr gelungen!
